Third Minnesota Essay Contest for Goodhue County Junior & Senior Student Scholarship
The essay is to be of “Goodhue County in the Civil War”
The 3rd Minn. announced their essay contest today as part of the Civil War 150th. Goodhue County Junior & Senior Students will have their paper "Goodhue County in the Civil War" judged by the membership of the Third Minnesota Regiment Volunteer Infantry, Co C. Provost & Medical. A scholarship of $250.00 will be presented to the winner and the winner will read their paper on the opening day of the “Faces of Goodhue County and the American Civil War” exhibit at the Goodhue County Museum May 2nd, 2011 at a time to be set between 4:30 & 6:30 pm.
The contest is open to Goodhue County Junior & Senior students and home schooled of the same grade level. All entries must have a title page with the student’s name, grade and school. The body of the paper should be 750-1000 words and double-spaced. No more than five spelling or grammar errors will be allowed. Particular attention will be paid to the works voice or tone and perspective. Is the work east to read and enjoyable? How has the writer chosen to present the information? Is there a personal touch? Finally, the work must have footnotes and a bibliography.
All essays must be submitted by March 15th, 2011.
